what can one do with tempeh? One restaurant's approach.

This is my boyfriend's TLT (tempeh, lettuce, and tomato) sandwich with Vegenaise. Sooooo good. 

The entire TLT plate. says that "tempeh is a fermented food made by the controlled fermentation of cooked soybeans with a Rhizopus mold (tempeh starter). The tempeh fermentation by the Rhizopus mold binds the soybeans into a compact white cake." The result is chewy, slightly meaty, delicious, and interesting. The tempeh used on this sandwich is smoked, to give it a somewhat bacon-ish flavor. It sounds weird, but it's good. :)

My own lunch: the tempeh reuben sandwich (a big slice of fried tempeh, sauerkraut, and thousand island dressing on rye toast), vegan red potato salad, and a homemade chocolate chip cookie.

This stuff all seems simple enough to make, I just need to get over my fear of screwing up tempeh at home. Anyway, I thought this might inspire some of you who have asked what one does with tempeh. :)
