The challange i face is that we want to have a vegan wedding in Maine (Portland, Maine) with about 75 guests. Maine isn't very veganized. We have about 4 resturants that have vegan options, and one fully vegan cafe that is very small and grassroots and doesn't do caterering. We just went to a ordinary caterer today to find out if they would do a vegan menu for us. However he seemed to give us a cold shoulder about it and said his cooks would be pissed and he could do it if he needed to but it wasn't something he normally does. GAH! in generally he had had a bad mindset about it so i decided he was a no-go.
So orgionally we wanted to do all of our own food. We were thinking, heck i can have my family make food. assign a different item to every family member and pool resources. However, one of my biggest resources (my sister with the boyfriend chief) say that i would be in WAY over my head and that it could never be done. They keep encouraging me to keep looking for caterers. Of course a caterer sounds nice, they do all the work for you. However they could fuck up and ruin out whole wedding by making it un-vegan on accident- plus it seems to be a challange in itself to find someone willing to do a vegan menu. I called / e-mailed many places but no one gets back to me. and i have a feeling i know why- i mentioned i was vegan and none of them want to do a vegan menu so they aren't getting back to me.
Anyway, what do you think we should do? I am willing to spend money, but no one wants my vegan $$. If my sister thinks i'm nuts for trying to do the food myself then she isn't going to be impressed when i start assigning items to her. My sister is awsome- don't get my wrong! but she's positive that making meals for 75 people is to much. maybe she is right. honestly what do you think?
Do you think if we slimmed down our list to about 60, got about 4 cake pans, made vegan lasagna in them, got some veggie platters from the store, some punch, chips, vegan potato salad or something- would that be to hard?
