I want to make a white cake with blueberries and chopped strawberries, and some kind of white icing that I can add food coloring to (red and blue so I can make it look like the French flag). I bought frozen blueberries and strawberries to use because fresh looked mushy. Will they be okay to use once they're thawed out?
I wanted to make Kitee's Chai Cake (found in the comments) but I forgot to pick up chai bags at the store. Can another type of tea be subbed (I have Earl Grey, green tea, and some lemon dieting tea) and still taste good with the strawberries and blueberries or should I just find a plain white cake recipe to use?
I was also going to bake it in a disposable loaf pan so it'll be smaller. Will that work? If I end up just making a white cake, should I use a butter cream frosting? I'm so awful at matching up icing flavors and cake flavors, and I'd really just rather not ice it, except for the whole flag thing.
