can i use applesauce instead?

I am going to make these cookies either tomorrrow or Saturday. I am wondering if I can use 1/2 cup of applesauce instead of the Ener-G Egg Replacers. I found a recipe for frosting today where the person that made it had replaced the 2 Ener-G's with 1/2 c applesauce. Would that work for this recipe as well?

Austrian Jam Cookies
Ingredients (use vegan versions):
• 1 cup Earth Balance non-hydrogenated vegan margarine
• 1 cup vegan sugar (I use Florida Crystals)
• 2 1/2 cups flour (I use organic unbleached white)
• 2 Ener-G Egg Replacers
• 2 teaspoons vanilla
• jam
• slivered almonds (optional)
Beat margerine, vegan sugar, Ener-G Egg Replacer, and vanilla until smooth and creamy. Stir in flour a cup at a time. Roll dough into balls. Roll balls into slivered almonds if desired. Thumb-print each ball and scoop a blob of jam into each cookie. Bake at 300 degrees F for 15-20 minutes (depending on how crispy you want the bottoms)
Cool and enjoy!
This recipe is from my friend Adam, and they are a great semi-elegant treat. Enjoy at tea-time or any time!
