tofu for sushi rolls?

My friend found her sushi kit and we want to make sushi together tomorrow. I've had vegetarian stuff before, and it had some sort of heavily marinated, very thin strips of tofu in it. It tasted mostly like soy sauce, and was kinda chewy, almost like Tofurky kinda sorta. I don't have any regular tofu, but I do have a box of firm silken I wouldn't mind putting to use. How would I go about preparing it for sushi? What else is good in vegetarian sushi? There's a cucumber and some carrots in my fridge...
