I have another question about cake and hopefully you all can help!

A while ago, I made a white layer cake, with white icing and sliced strawberries in between the layers with a little bit of icing. I sliced the strawberries and let them dry really good before putting them in the middle with the icing, but they seemed to have reacted with the icing somehow and made liquid that seeped through the side icing and dripped down a little. It still tasted great, but I'm wondering if there's a way that I can prevent this? Perhaps by soaking the strawberry slices or coating them with something? Any ideas?

and it's hard
everything in my house contains dairy or meat
i just need to know what stuff to buy from the grocerey store
then i'll be happy
