It was my friend's birthday yesterday, she had a party and everyone had to bring food to contribute. I made lemon cake Collapse )

SOUR CREAM

i used to be obsessed with sour cream, i haven't had the real thing in way too long and i was just wondering if anyone knew of any alternatives that tasted anywhere near the real thing. i've tried one, i can't think of the name, but it was absolutely terrible. if not, has anyone made any that is decent?

broccoli casserole

here is my vegan version of my aunt's amazing broccoli casserole, as promised to erica_the_vegan:

two heads of broccoli
1/2 cup of your fav. margerine (i use soy garden)
1 sleeve of ritz crackers, crushed (i use whole wheat, but you can use any cracker, really - about 1 1/2 cups of crumbs)
about two cups vegan *cheese*.. i find cheddar or mozarella flavors work the best

cut broccoli into big florets and steam until, uh, well-steamed.

melt the margerine and add it to the cracker crumbs

get a casserole dish, put half the broccoli in it, cover with half the crumb mixture, top with half of the "cheese". repeat. melt a bit more margerine and sprinkle it over top. cover and bake for half an hour at 350. enjoy.

i have yet to meet someone that doesn't love this, including children! it's simply amazing.

This is a stir-fry with broccoli, bok choy, onions, carrots, asparagus, garlic, and green onion in a spicy sauce. It is accompanied by brown rice, and baked, marinated tofu. Yummy. I just really enjoy taking pictures of dinner. Hope you don't mind.
