Does anyone have good granola bar recipes?
I'm looking for something nutritious and cheaper than luna bars (which shouldn't be too hard).
Preferably something low fat, without a lot of ingredients, and that I could add flax to?

but are sprinkles usually vegan?

i made a vegan vanilla cake out of the recipes and wanted to put sprinkles on top of it but i didnt know if those were out of the question or not

Silken Tofu

When I get sillken tofu, I usually make sauces or shakes or something involving a blender out of it. However, since I moved (temporarily, let's hope) from the Mecca of Austin to the Buttmunchland of suburban Houston, it's a bit more difficult for me to obtain regular tofu, and the limited, makes-me-want-to-roar corner grocery store only has silken.

So I was wondering if anyone has had any amount of success substituting silken tofu for regular. What happens when you freeze it? Does it absorb spices well in its solid form?

On that note, anyone had any success extracting wheat gluten from flour? Or is there some generic chain-type-place at which I can possible obtain it? And oh, where is the tempeh?

me again! on cake baking/cooling

how long should i wait before i turn a cake out of the pan? its a bundt. i got up early this morning because i knew i was going to ruin the first one, and yes, i did. its delicious, but not in a cake shape anymore. this second one i'd like to come out nicely, instead of broken in half horizontally. i did 'grease' (i hate that word) and flour the pan beforehand. i have a feeling the cake was still too warm when i tried to turn it out. i waited just about ten minutes. tips/suggestions?

Peanut Butter and Jelly Bread

Vegweb.com has become one of my favorite sites.  I found a recipe for Peanut Butter and Jelly bread that is made in a bread machine (you can find it here).

Peanut Butter and Jelly Bread

1 cup water
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup jelly
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar (I used Sugar in the Raw)
1 cup whole wheat flour
2 cups bread flour
1 1/2 teaspoon active yeast

Put the ingredients in the bread maker according to your manafacturer (if you have Breadman, add ingredients straight down the list, water being the first ingredient added and the yeast being last).  Select sweet (or basic) setting, with light crust.  Let the bread machine do the rest of the work for you, remove from pan, slice and enjoy!

I did notice one problem.  During the 2nd and 3rd kneeding cycles, my machine nearly walked off of the counter!  So if you decided to make this, I'd recommed being around for the whloe time the machine is doing the work just to make sure nothing a happens.

Hello all!

I'm new here and I'm new to the whole vegan cooking thing. I'd like to know any yummy recipes using Tempeh. So please, give me anything you know! I'm looking at the package right now and not feeling postive about whether or not I can make something edible or tasty out of this stuff. So please, HELP! Thanks in advance

Green Tomatoes

We're moving in a week and we're leaving behind all of our lovely tomato plants that are dripping with nice big green tomatoes but before we actually leave I'm going to harvest most of them. So, I'm looking for yummy things to do with alot of green tomatoes besides the typical fried version. Any ideas? :)

silken tofu

so after reading the faq's ive decided not to use this silken tofu for a cheesecake and give in and buy some vegan cream cheese.

ive actually only used silken tofu once before for a pudding (which was good, but i dont like chocolate pudding, i dont know why i made it). so what else does everyone use it for? im still in the mood for dessert, but something else might be interesting.

also if you have a to die for, or very simple cheesecake recipe feel free to be tempted to share it.

Cherry help, please

This community is the best one on LJ, for sure. I LOVE this place. So where do I turn when I have buckets of fresh cherries from my grandfather's garden, and no clue what to do with them all? To vegancooking, of course! :)

So yeah... question... what do I do with cherries? I would like to bake something, but I don't want something like pie, since that will just be a bit too much for me... Of course, since I have a LOT of cherries, any other ideas would be appreciated too. Anything that freezes? Any ideas?
I already made a lovely cherry soup, and I will post the recipe as soon as I get a picture of the lovely goodness :)
