vegan 'turtle' candies?

My mom loves those 'turtle' know the caramel and pecans covered in chocolate?

She's insisting I not spend money on her for Christmas but if I insist on buying something, get her a box of those and nothing else (they want me to save money for my grad school books next semester).

So here's my dilemma...there's no way I'm going to spend money on something for someone else I wouldn't ethically spend on myself. So are there any vegan types of these? My mom would appreciate it no less (and probably enjoy it no less) whether it was vegan or not. So if you know of anything like this, let me know.

Chicago Diner Lentil Loaf Recipe

Does anyone have the Chicago Diner Cookbook? I desperately need the lentil loaf recipe, I thought I had it, but it has disappeared somehow. If I can remember right it had tempeh, bulgur, oats, sunflower seeds, onion, celery, carrots, nuts of some kind, sage, thyme, and maybe a few other things. I can't even seem to find a similar recipe. It was by far the best lentil loaf I have ever tried! Thanks!

Making lentil loaves or vganmeatloaf

When you cook a lentil loaf (I also had this issue with the veganmeatloaf I made too...) how do you keep the top from getting super crusty? Everytime I have made one the top scorches or gets really hard. Does anyone know why this could be?

I am going to try and make the one posted from the Chicago diner for christmas, but I don't want it to look icky as I am taking it to my very meat loving family and I want them to want to try it.

Also any ideas for sides that will go well with that lentil loaf?

Vegan Split Pea Stew With Pesto

This might look a little sloppy, but it sure is good! I hate when someone makes split pea soup for me, but it has that HUGE ham hock in it. It makes me feel like I am eating a tub of grease...which is actually not that far off. When I made this today, I just started throwing any odds and ends from the fridge into the pot... and it turned out really good. You can really get creative with this recipie.

(no subject)

Hello! I am desperately looking for a recipe for vegan "meatballs" that taste meaty. I'm having Christmas dinner at my place this year and I'm the only one who doesn't eat a meat and more meat diet... It's Italian themed to make it accessible to them and one of the dishes I'm making is a classic spaghetti with meatballs.

I looked in the index, but didn't see meatballs (maybe I overlooked them). I want them to be tasty and have a good consistency and the recipe MUST be tried and true (so while I know I could go to vegweb, I'd love it if someone knew of a good recipe that they have actually made!)

If you have a favorite recipe that would be suitable, please let me know! Thank you!!

alright.. how many cups is six ounces of chocolate chips? usually, i buy the 12 oz bags, so it's just half of that, obviously, but now i have this gigantic bag of chips and would rather find a way to measure six ounces without having to divide the bag into 18 equal portions. thanks!

somebody help

I just recently got into veganism. I haven't been strictly vegan yet but I want to be. What is your suggestion for cheese. I have had no problem with the soy milk, the vegan butter or even the soy ice cream but I have been a long time cheese lover and it's the hardest thing for me. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Peanut Butter Fudge

At the request of some folks in veganfoodpics, here is a recipe for peanut butter fudge. I found it in a Skippy ad while flipping through junk mail, and it was already vegan (and of course, awful for you). I laughed when I saw the ingredients...But if you love peanut butter, then you will probably like 'em alot. They are very rich and dense, basically like eating a chunk of the filling inside peanut butter cups. My boyfriend and I made them together, and he could not stop eating them.

I'm currently experimenting with a veganised bread machine cheatin' stollen (German yule cake) recipe. I can't see any such recipes in the memories. Does anyone have a tried-and-true recipe for comparison?

dilemma 2004

i am in a make-it-or-break-it situation next monday (the 27th). at thanksgiving i totally won my parents over that me being vegan is ok. while i was visiting them i made 2 vegan dinners and they thought it was great. i mean...they're not going vegan, but they're not worried that i'm starving and not getting any nutrients.

however, when i'm home at Christmas my sister & brother-in-law will be there and that's a different story. they're the 'veganism is such a stupid idea' types to put it shortly.

i'm supposed to make dinner at least one night (cuz 2 of my newly-wed friends are coming over that night cuz my parents haven't seen them since they got married and i haven't seen them since the wedding). my friends & my parents will be down for whatever but...

i need a SERIOUS winner recipe to show my sister & her husband that vegan food is not only healthy, it's also really good!

i thought about doing lasagna, my sister's favorite recipe...but she hates lasagna at most restaurants (she's hard to please with has to be a certain way or not at all...and i don't want to take that gamble). so...ideas please! either link me to recipes or provide them in a comment.

thanks so much! :)

tofu veggie tart

Does anyone have the 'tofu veggie tart' recipe that Alex makes Morgan for his last dinner in Supersize Me? The DVD came with the recipes from the last supper, but I lost it :( It was made with phyllo dough and tofu and spinach and peppers, and looked reeeeally good. Or if anyone has a similiar recipe, that would help. Oh yeah, and does anyone know what specific brands of phyllo dough are vegan?
