'Oreo' Pie and Pear Pie

My brother says he would like an oreo pie for his birthday, but I've never had one or attempted to make one. It's easy enough to use Newman-O's in place of oreos, but it's the rest of the pie that I'm not exactly sure how to do. Has anyone even seen a recipe for a vegan oreo pie? I think I could veganise an oreo creamy pie like this one, but then there's no guarantee it will turn out good. I could try using vegan Toffutti cream cheese, Hain vanilla pudding, and Hip Whip or something. Though, I remember Hip Whip not tasting too swell. Maybe homemade would be better...

I also figured I'd make a pear pie or a pear apple pie, which I don't think should be hard to veganize at all. I'll just look several recipes up and choose the one that sounds the best.

Anyway, if anyone has any advice or anything, that'd be appreciated.


Having just made cottage pie (just the usual: mashed potatoes over sauteed onions and garlic, tvp, mixed veg, gravy, basil, oregano, a little salt, and cornflour [cornstarch] for thickening), I realised that using 1:1 Marmite and Bovril (not the chicken flavour, which does contain dehydrated chicken) makes a really excellent gravy. I'd never tried it before, but it worked like a charm.

soy cream in a can?

SO I thought I remembered seeing a post about somewhere one might be able to purchase vegan whipped cream in can, but I cannot seem to find that post now (I looked in the memories and back a few pages in the community to no avail). I saw that food fight in Portland sells soy whip, but that is a tad far for me so does anyone know of any general stores that might carry it? (I seem to remeber the original poster saying they had it at a popular store that I do not normally frequent, but do not remember which one...or I just dreamed it all up in my silly little dreams...or I read about it somewhere else...) Anyone have any ideas? I am having some family over for desserts and it would be awesome to have the whipped cream like we used to have (my one family member just found out he is allergic to milk so he would be pretty psyked) Thanks!

light and fluffy frosting!

hi! okay. here's the deal. i went to philadelphia a few weeks back and went to gianna's grill, which has a huge and wonderful assortment of vegan food and desserts. i was totally blown away by their frosting. it was incrediably light and fluffy, they used it on cakes and in cannolli's. i've been literally having dreams about this frosting and i tried to re-create it tonight. much to my dismay, the recipe i was using made a really terrible frosting in general, especially in comparison to this lovely philadelphian frosting. does anyone have any recipes for something super light and super fluffy? maybe ener-g egg replacer? i did use agar in the bombed recipe tonight. any ideas? thanks!
