Something missing in Chilli

I've made chili a few time and I guess it's okay, but it seems like there's something missing in it. Just kind of bland, even when I make it really spicy...I used to make chili with Fantastic World Food's mix, which was amazing, but it seems they don't make it anymore, as I haven't seen it in stores in months. Any suggestions you have would be appreciated for making this recipe more flavorful.
I basically just throw diced tomatoes, garlic, chili powder, basil, oregano, kidney beans, onions, chopped green chillis, zuchini, and veggie ground in  a pot and stew.

quinoa and green bean salad

Its been a while since I actually cooked, but I just had to today!

Here's where I got the recipe, but I tweaked it, and ate it all myself: http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/recipes/recipe.php?recipeId=2018

Ingredients
1/2 cup quinoa, rinsed
1 cup water
A couple heaping handfuls? of green beans
Salt to taste
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
some sesame seeds
some pumpkin seeds

Method
Toast quinoa in a dry skillet over medium heat, stirring constantly for about 4 minutes. Put toasted quinoa into a medium pot and add water. Bring to a boil, then cover and simmer until all of the water is absorbed and quinoa is tender, 10 to 15 minutes. Set aside, uncovered, to let cool.

Meanwhile boil the green beans in lightly salted water until al dente, about 2 minutes. Rinse in cold water to stop the cooking and drain well.

In a large bowl, combine quinoa, green beans, lemon juice and oil. Add sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, salt and pepper and toss to combine well. Serve at room temperature.

(This picture was taken after I had eaten more than half of it... just so you have an idea of how much this will make. haha)
