Egg Substitute for Spicy Onion Rings

Hey everyone,

So I have the ubiquitous what-should-I-substitute question. I'm trying to make this recipe for spicy onion rings. It calls for "1 cup egg substitute." I'm pretty sure "egg substitute" in this recipe refers to one of those concoctions that come in bottles that are called egg beaters or something. Anyway, is there an appropriate vegan substitute? Would adding some beer to the batter have this effect?
