replacing cornstarch

I want to make the general tao's tofu recipe from vegweb. I don't have cornstarch or white flour (oh the delights of moving. again.) but I do have arrowroot and whole wheat pastry flour.

can I use arrowroot to bread and fry the tofu and get similar results to cornstarch? I just don't want a slimy inedible mess since this is my last box of tofu. also, the WWP flour seems like it'd leave me with gritty, not crispy tofu.

worst comes to worst, I'll just fry it naked (the tofu not me obvi).
