Good for sandwiches, but also really delicious toasted, with earth balance whipped buttery spread.
Grandma Dahlin's Shredded Wheat Brown Bread (2 loaves)
Mix 2 cups hot water with 3 crumpled Shredded Wheat biscuits.
Dissolve 1 yeast cake (1 yeast packet) w/ 1/4 cup warm water.
Combine the above and add;
1/2 cup dark molasses
3 Tbl. oil ( I use canola)
1 teas. salt
While mixing (preferably with dough hook), gradually add 5-6 cups of flour to the right consistency,(slightly sticky).
Let rise in bowl. Divide into 2 loaves,
Lightly knead on floured surface, place in greased pans and let rise again (2nd rising is optional, but produces lighter bread.)
Bake at 400 degrees for 1st 10 minutes.
Reduce to 350 degrees for 2nd 10 minutes
Reduce to 250 degrees for rest of baking.
Total baking time should be approximately 1 hour.
Remove loaves from pans, turning upside down on wire rack.
