Spicy Chocolate Chip Cookies

Hey, I've got a recipe and a question about tweaking it for you guys! :)

Here's the recipe (which I haven't tried veganized yet, so this'll be interesting -- it was passed to me by a friend):

2/3 cup butter flavored shortening
2/3 cup 'butter', softened
1 cup white sugar
1 cup packed light brown sugar
2 'eggs'
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

Now, these are for a friend serving in the military in Afghanistan and he's asked me to experiment a bit in the kitchen. Last time, I made 'hot mouth sex' cookies -- chocolate chocolate-raspberry cookies. I was thinking this time I'd make some spicy chocolate chip cookies since we're from the southwest and the guy is also fond of Mexican chocolate, which normally is spicy, anyhow. So, the question is... how much red chile powder do I add? I want it noticeably spicy, but not tear-inducing. The 4 cups of flour have thrown me off. Would 2 Tbl be too much?

Thanks guys, you're all gems! :D
