Rice Balls for Spaghetti

Hi All,

I am making these (from Betty Crocker's Easy Everyday Vegetarian) to go with my spaghetti tomorrow night, and would like some suggestions/help:

2 C cooked white rice
1/2 C quick-cooking oats
1 Medium onion, chopped
1/4 C unseasoned dry bread crumbs
1/4 C milk
1 T fresh basil leaves
2 t fresh oregano
1/4 t ground cayenne
1 egg, beaten
1/2 C wheat germ
1 T vegetable oil

I've made these once before, when I had already gone vegan, and they were so-so.  My mother has this somewhat huge hatred of wheat germ that has given me the desire to completely stay away from it, so I didn't use it last time and they kinda fell apart somewhat.  I also use the ener-g egg replacer last time, but I don't use that anymore, so I would probably use ground flax seed.  Any suggestions?  Or other beloved recipes?  I don't use the fake meat, because I don't like all the processing.  I do, however, have some tempeh in the fridge that needs to be used up, and I was considering making the sausage thing from VWAV, but I was really hoping for some meatball-like thing.
