I'm thinking of experimenting. I was thinking of starting with just a vanilla cake base, but using aniseed essence, then... somehow making a licorice icing. Do you reckon melting the licorice (is that even doable?) and then whacking it in a generic icing/frosting would work?
I was also thinking of putting in a bit of molasses in the cupcakes; I think it'd lend a nice flavour (make it more licoricey, rather than plain ol' aniseed).
Anyone ever tried this? Any tips you can give me?
And if I'm not using licorice IN the cake, how can I get it to be black? (I have not been able to find black food dye for all my years of baking *woe*)
