Do any of you own a good authentic south Indian cookbook that you'd recommend? Most of the ingredients will probably be new to me so a cookbook that explains what things are would be helpful, and I'd really like it if it had some bits about culture too (for instance tonight at the restaurant the owner told me this one relish was to stimulate appetite. just little facts like that). So I'm interested both in making the food and learning food traditions.
I do have access to several Indian grocery stores so hopefully won't have trouble finding ingredients. If you have any book recommendations, please let me know! I didn't see anything under the Indian tag or the cookbooks tag. I did see this book mentioned, but it seems to be a bit more americanized than I'd like--at least based on the reviews.
