Seitan N00b Checks In

I just wanted to check back in let you know how my first experience with seitan turned out.

I made two at the same time because I wanted to compare the results.

Here are the results of this recipe.

Unfortunately the picture disappeared into the Internet ether after I already deleted from my camera so you'll have to use your imagination. I was a pale brown floating in a cloudy brown sauce that actually looks much better than it sounds.

I love the taste and texture of this. I plan to make a salsbury steak. I plan to make a mushroom gravy by adding cornstarch to the broth and letting it thicken. I welcome any suggestions for gravy if you have them.

And, here are the results of this one.

This one will come in most handy by packing in my lunch by itself or on a sandwich. I also want to try making a vegan antipasto or as a pizza topping. I thought I might also try it with saurkraut and French dressing on rye bread.

I was amazed at how simple it was to make. It took mere minutes to put together. I was skeptical at first, especially with the first one, but I was ecstatic with results. I just baked and boiled while I worked on some other dishes at the same time. I plan to make seitan a regular part of my diet from now on. Thanks everyone for your instructions and suggestions. It has really changed my life.
