pumpkin

So... my "sugar pumpkin" is very tough, stringy, and hard to cut, and the flesh texture/color seems off, very pale. Was I sold a small jack-o-lantern??

If so, is there any way to salvage it for use in a recipe?
I was thinking roasting for a long time with brown sugar.
