A discovery

I discovered something just now while making dinner for breakfast. I chopped up some pine nuts and toasted them in a dry skillet to sprinkle on top of my pasta, and to my amazement the aroma and flavor of them is very bacon-y, especially with some added salt. They've got a surprising smoky, umami flavor that I never would have guessed from eating them raw. I didn't add any oil, but that would make them even bacon-ier. These would be good on a salad.
