question

I'm new to vegan (but 120% excited about it) I bought How It All Vegan and Garden of Vegan and made some cookies from the books. Long story short: I used carob chips because my health food store did not have vegan chocolate chips. Well the two cookies I made with the carob chips (Maureen's Oatmeal Chocolate Chip and Chocolate Chip Bars) taste - and I hate to say it because my family is SO against vegan - awful. BUT I made Mum's Sugar Cookies from Garden of Vegan and they're SOOO yummy. so I'm thinking its the chips? They just give it a funny almost bitter taste? I don't know I can't describe it. I have to cook with them again to make this Peanut Butter Pie I was going to make for x-mas, but I'm afraid to. The only other close place I thought might have vegan chocolate chips is Zagara's, but I'm not even sure about that. I was wondering if anyone had advice of something I could add/put on top of the cookies. Its probably too late to order chocolate chips off-line. *sigh* I just am so sad everything turned out badly. I also already have a grahmn cracker crust for my peanut butter pie and silken tofu, if anyone could reccomend an EASY EASY EASY recipe that they have tried and is edible by even non-vegans standards. I'm going to look in the memories but I'd feel better knowing someone else ate it. thanks for any help.
