Cranberry pancakes?

I have a whole bunch of cranberries left over from Thanksgiving, and I want to put them into pancakes. Do you think they would turn out right if I just throw them, raw, into the batter, or would they be hard, crunchy, sour little balls that ruin the pancakes since the batter cooks so fast? Do you think I should cook them first, before I mix them into the batter? How would you guys go about this?
