chilli con soya


the pot was originally full with chilli. the picture above is from a day after.

I combined two recipes, one of Jamie Oliver and the other from
1 medium onion
1 clove of garlic
chopped thin or in a food processor
1 fresh chilli pepper, deseeded and chopped
1 can of chopped tomatoes
1 fresh tomato, cubed
a splash of red wine
some mustard
olive oil
1 can of beans of any kind, I used white beans in tomato sauce.
1.5 (i think) cups of soya crumbles.
seasoning: chilli powder or hot paprika powder, cumin, salt, pepper, sugar, oregano.

it takes about a hour to make it. I made it in a heavy cooking pot.
put a little olive oil in the pot, throw inside the chopped onion and garlic and fry on low to medium heat until softened and a little browned. then put inside the chopped chilli pepper along with hot paprika powder, cumin, salt and pepper.
after some minutes add the fresh tomatoe, mix it up, leave for 4-5 minutes, then add the wine, the mustard and the canned tomatoes.
cover it and leave it for 30-35 minutes with an occasionally stirring.
after 30-35 minutes add the soya crumbles, an equal amount of water and the beans and give it another 10-15 minutes.
notice- too much water = a watery chilli.

serve on rice, with bread, as a main dish, as a side dish or whatever.
